If you haven’t taken action to achieve the career you love, what are you waiting for? For the timing to be perfect? For someone’s permission? For certainty on the outcome?
You’re unlikely to get those things. So, it’s time to decide if you’re going to take action anyway.
Commit to taking three actions this week to move forward with your dream career and see what type of momentum that creates. Below are six ideas to help you do that. (More ideas are included in my free EXIT Strategy Video series, which is available by signing up in the orange bar on my website.)
- Get clarity on what energizes you. What do you read in your free time? When do you feel your best, strongest, most authentic self? What are you passionate about when talking with your friends? What did you love to do when you were a kid?
- Research someone who has been there, done that. Find those whose careers you love and follow them through social media or read their books. Find a role model to guide your own journey and invite him or her to lunch.
- Start sharing your true interests with trusted friends to make connections in your field of interest.
- Take a class to find out how much you love the skills needed for the career. There’s a lot of free training online these days, or you can find classes in your area. Perhaps there’s an opportunity to take on a stretch assignment or shadow someone in another job at your current workplace.
- Hang out with those who love what you love. Through social media postings and online research, you can find out where folks with like-minded interests hang out. Yoga studios? A local meetup of writers? An area cooking class? An organization for entrepreneurs? The Chamber of Commerce?
In the comments section below, please share what action you take and how it goes! After all, I agree with Lucille Ball: “I’d rather regret the things I’ve done than regret the things I haven’t done.”
