Are you tired of having the same goals month after month or year after year and not accomplishing them? If you’re not taking these 7 actions, it’s time to do just that, so you can finally accomplish your goals, celebrate them, and then set newer, grander ones! Score!
1) Be specific.
The more specific you are about your goals, the easier it is to create an action plan to accomplish them and the easier it is to envision accomplishing them. “I want to lose weight” is vague. “I want to lose 10 pounds by Dec. 1” is specific. “I want to feel less stressed about my finances” is vague. “I want to have $15k in my savings account by Oct. 1” is specific. “I want a promotion” is vague. “I want to be the COO of ABC Company by July 1 of next year” is specific.
2) Figure out & focus on WHY.
Know why you want what you want, because when the actions become a chore, the “why” can keep you motivated. As a related tip, look to your values to guide your goal setting; that’ll provide clarity on the “why.”
3) Write them down.
Write down your goals. Studies show that those who write them down are more likely to accomplish them. And take time to look at them every day. They should energize and focus you.
4) Share them.
Share your goals with trusted friends and family members. They can act as cheerleaders and accountability partners when needed.
5) Take new action.
Decide what action you’re going to take and by when to accomplish your goals. Ensure you have new approaches and action items on your list. Have fun with a crazy brainstorming session. Otherwise, if you go with the same approach you’ve always used, you’ll get the same result.
6) Envision yourself accomplishing your goals.
Put up pictures on your vision board of how you’ll feel or what you’ll do when you accomplish your goals. Live with that feeling of accomplishment and use it to attract what you need in your life and keep you energized about your goals.
7) Believe you can do it & deserve it.
This sounds simple, but it’s not always easy. If you’ve had the same goal for months or years, it’s easy to lose faith in your ability to accomplish the goal. It’s important to take time (with a coach or on your own) to figure out what beliefs you have that may be a barrier to accomplishing your goals. If you don’t feel deserving or capable of achieving your goals, you’ll stay stuck. It’ll be essential to let go of the old beliefs and create new ones to achieve what you want for yourself.
Please share which of these tips was most helpful to you and why. I appreciate your feedback!
