If you want to change any aspect of your life – your career, your relationship, your financial situation, your level of fitness – it takes energy and effort. So really, why bother?
Well, that’s exactly what you need to figure out. Why do you want more for yourself? Is it because you’re tired of not living to your full potential? Is it because deep down you know you are meant for something different and more? Is it because you don’t want to have regrets about what you didn’t do? Is it because you’re tired of being tired?
Whatever YOUR reason is, get clarity on it. Know what’s motivating your desire for change. Articulate what you want for yourself; write it down. Post pictures on your bathroom mirror, by your bedside table, and on your vision board to remind yourself of your WHY. Knowing why you’re taking the action you are – especially when you are tired and have to face your fears to make it happen – will help you keep up your momentum and move forward.
Ultimately, I believe we all want to be living to our fullest potential and using our gifts to help others. But asking yourself “Why?” several times to dig deep enough to get to the real motivation can really help you on your journey.
An example to show what’s motivating you:
“I want a new job.”
Why?
“Because I want to make more money.”
Why?
“Because if I have more money, I’ll feel unburdened and free.”
Why?
“Because that’s really what I want – is to feel free.”
So then use that as a guide in your EXIT Strategy – gravitating toward opportunities where you feel empowered and free.
An example to show what’s holding you back:
“I’m creating change in my life because I’m sick of my current situation.”
Why?
“Because I want more for myself.”
Why?
“Because I’m not giving my all and I know it.”
Why?
“Because I’m afraid to really put myself out there and have others judge me.”
Why?
“Because what if I fail or if I’m not good enough.”
So now you know what’s keeping you stuck from moving you forward in your EXIT Strategy. Increasing your awareness (as I’ve said many times, I know) is key in your EXIT process.
