For the past several months, I’ve been working out using an old-school approach – fitness DVDs. (Mostly Shaun T and Jillian Michaels have been helping me get in shape.) There are a lot of moments when I’m dripping in sweat and catching my breath that I’ll hear words of wisdom from these famous fitness trainers that translate perfectly into an EXIT Strategy to help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
Check out these 4 essential fitness mantras to get clarity and motivation with your EXIT Strategy – and then, go kick some butt!
1) Don’t Resist the Work, Embrace It
There I was – doing my high front kicks when I heard this phrase. And I realized that I was indeed resisting the work. I was being careful and wasn’t giving it my all. So, in one quick decision, I stopped resisting and fully committed to those front kicks. I know I got better results because of this shift.
You can use the same thinking with your EXIT Strategy. Don’t approach your actions with resistance or carefulness. Instead, embrace the opportunity and pursue the work with passion. You’ll get better results!
2) Work Through the Pain
I admit it, if I’m hopping on one leg and it’s outright painful, I’m not going to keep doing it. I’ll modify the exercise by using both legs so I can continue with the workout.
The sentiment is still a good one. In your EXIT Strategy, it’s not always going to be easy. It may be frustrating and exhausting at times, and it may lead to feelings of isolation and uncertainty. The message here is persevere. Keep taking the next step (or hop), and then the next one, to move forward.
3) Know Why You’re Doing It
Knowing why you’re working out or desiring to EXIT your current situation can be a great motivator. I’ve written blogs about this before – be really clear on your WHY, and it’ll help you with your decision making and motivation with your workout, career and life journeys.
4) Believe You Can Do It
It’s amazing how much we can accomplish when we are fully engaged, putting forth our best effort and believing we can accomplish our goals. I mean – what else do we need? We can amaze ourselves with our strength and results if we choose to believe. So be a believer!
