Too often, I see people living day in and day out – surviving. They can’t wait until the weekend to spend time doing what they want to do. They’re resentful of others for telling them what to do and how to be. They’re just getting by, waiting for things to get better. Or worse, they’ve lost hope that they will.
I’ve been there (in several of those cases). I’ve chosen survival mode and looked for other people and things to affect my ability to thrive, not realizing I had the power and ability to move beyond surviving to thriving. As a reminder, we’re not born to survive; we’re born to thrive. Hence, the name of my weekly blog = Thrival Kit.
Check out the 7 descriptions below of surviving versus thriving and figure out which one best describes you.
Survival Mode |
Thrival Mode |
Not appreciating the day | Focusing on being in the present moment |
Longing for (which is different than looking forward to) the weekend or vacation | Finding things to be grateful for with your current situation |
Being resentful toward those around you | Recognizing you’re in your situation due to decisions you’ve made |
Feeling disempowered, putting your happiness in the hands of others | Feeling empowered to create change and manage your own situation and emotions |
Not taking time to take care of yourself | Realizing your worth taking care of – by eating right, exercising, getting rest, practicing mindfulness |
Believing there’s never enough | Realizing the abundance in the world and that you can attract it |
Questioning if you’re good enough | Realizing you are good enough and can make positive change in your life and others’ lives by sharing your gifts |
If you’re surviving, it’s time to:
- Increase your awareness about it
- Realize you have the power to change it
- Take action
If you’re wondering – what action? Check out my other Thrival Kit blog messages and free EXIT Strategy video series on my website (which you can sign up for in the orange bar). They include lots of actions to help you move forward.
Remember, awareness is step #1! Are you getting in your own way? If so – kick survival to the curb. It’s amazing what change can be created in just a month if you shift your energy, decide it’s going to be a great month and take action.
Please let me know what actions you take to shift into Thrival Mode using the comments section below!
