We all have them – those beliefs that create fear and keep us stuck. They can keep us from achieving what we want for ourselves – for years, or worse yet, forever.
How long have you been thinking about taking action on that goal or that dream you have for yourself? A long time, right? So, what do you want to do about it? Give up that dream or figure out what’s really holding you back, build up that courage muscle and take action?
To get unstuck, you need to start by understanding what the fear is – like really is. And one way to figure it out is to ask yourself: “What am I afraid of?” If you try to answer the question intellectually, it doesn’t get to the real cause. Initially, you may answer it with something like: “I don’t have the money.” “My mom won’t approve.” “I’m too old.” Or “I don’t know how.” But is that really what’s going on? Take some alone time to be honest with yourself and dig deep with the question.
Then, it’s time to challenge those beliefs. Hey! I mean – are they really true? Maybe you don’t need more money, your mom’s approval, youth or to have it all figured out to achieve your dream. Have you asked yourself “So what?! What if I took one action toward my dream anyway?”
This week’s Thrival Kit challenge is to take that quiet, alone time to observe your own thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. Be honest with yourself about what’s driving them. Passion? Fear? For a week, at the end of each day, write down your observations and check out the patterns. Don’t judge your beliefs or behaviors. Be open to learning more about yourself in an effort to get unstuck.
I have been amazed at what happens – how doors open, how the right people come into your life – when you get on the right path and take action.
