Here’s your wake up call EXIT Strategy readers! Ring! Ring!
If you’re waiting on:
> the perfect time
> a guarantee of success
> everyone’s full support and understanding
> your feeling of 100% readiness
before you take action on your dream career or life, you’re going to be waiting forever, and that dream aint gonna be realized.
Deep down these are all excuses not to move forward. I’ve been there too – my excuse (until my wake up call) was waiting for the perfect time. When my finances reached this goal, when I had clarity on that action, when I knew with 100% certainty that I was moving in the right direction – THEN I’d take the leap.
At some point, you have to decide how much you want to realize your career or life dream. Are you willing to take action without the guarantees and with feelings of uncertainty?
Some questions to ask yourself to get that clarity:
1) On a scale of 0-10, how much do you want to live your dream? Are you willing to take some risks? Save your money to create financial flexibility? Deal with the naysayers? Work hard and, at the same time, allow the great things to flow into your world?
2) In 5 years, are you going to regret not taking action? How long do you want to talk about it? How long do you want to brainstorm about it with a friend over a glass of wine? Alright already. Do you still just want to be talking or thinking about it in five years? If you decide not to pursue it, are you okay with that?
3) Are you willing to be open to the experience despite the outcome? Since there are no guarantees, the outcome of your efforts may not be the same as your original vision. Quite honestly, it probably won’t be the same. The realization could be even more amazing! Or you could reach bumps and barriers along the way that lead to a new path. Are you ready and willing to take action anyway? Do you think of it as an exciting adventure or are you trying to control everything along the way? ‘Cause that fully-controlling-it thing won’t serve you on your EXIT Strategy journey.
Listen to your inner voice, not the external noise. If you follow my blogs regularly, you know that I believe those nagging feelings and internal voices are meant to guide you (not annoy you) toward getting on your path and purpose. And that purpose is always about using your gifts to be of service to others.
And hey! If you decide not to go for that dream you’ve been talking about or envision a different dream, that’s okay too. But decide and be happy. Just don’t let that nagging shoulda, coulda, woulda stick with you for the rest of your life while you wait for the perfect time and to feel 100% ready. If you don’t let go of those excuses, you’ll stay stuck forever … surviving instead of thriving.

What are you going to do now that you’ve had your wake up call?
Let me know which of these excuses may have been keeping you stuck and how you plan to work through it. It’d be great to have a dialogue about it and help others who are in the same boat!
